Complex Care Training for

Gibraltar Nursing Home

Mark Reed, recently appointed COO of Evolve Care Group, and Jason Carder one of Evolve’s Social Care Coaches, recently completed a two-week Maybo programme designed to award accreditation for “Personal Safety & Disengagement for Older Adults” and “Redirection and Guiding” which they will deliver to the Evolve’s care homes across the Southwest.

Maybo Training

Accredited by City & Guilds and BILD ACT, Maybo training equips social care facilitators with the necessary skills to guide their teams in supporting individuals on a complex behaviour journey.  Mark explained “It’s a really effective behaviour support model to be able to bring into Evolve’s homes. Society is becoming more complex, and our family members are advancing further in their cognitive development and becoming more expressive compared to those cared for in the past. We used to rely on external providers, which meant waiting two to four weeks for training delivery. Now, we can be at any of our homes within 24 hours, not only ensuring a safer and smoother transition for anyone with complex needs moving in but supporting the system with a faster admission process, and of course we can offer person-focused support as we know and understand the individuals living in our homes”

The programme specifically emphasised on de-escalation, risk reduction, and effective communication, ensuring safer working environments. Over two weeks Mark and Jay spent four days learning, and three days being assessed on teaching the course material. The initial four days covered the theory behind why people become expressive and the factors contributing to their mood. Understanding these elements is crucial for better managing and de-escalating situations in care environments.

Take-aways

Jay praised the training by saying “the training highlighted that the principles we already have in place align really well, and the intervention techniques we learnt were really positive as a set of guidance.” Mark mirrored this by saying he appreciated how Maybo’s training aligned with Evolve’s existing care model, enhancing its effectiveness and relevance.

This training supports Evolve Care Group to continue to set sector standards. By truly understanding the unique needs of the individuals who live with us, something external trainers simply can’t match, our in-house training becomes the most effective approach for caring for the individuals in our care.
